Cunard Line has created many of the new menus in its development kitchen in Southampton. Each cabin has free room service with a simple menu - burgers, pasta, crackers which can be ordered by phone at any time. The boat has 18 decks, of which 13 passenger-accessible and 11 with cabins. The 2004-built RMS Queen Mary 2 cruise ship is the oldest and most famous of all Cunard liners, with fleetmates the sisterships MS Queen Victoria (2007) and MS Queen Elizabeth (2010), and Cunard's newest liner (2024-built) Queen Anne. The sight of that iconic skyline disappears into the distance as you sip champagne on deck. Whether you're crossing the Atlantic in search of Europe or indulging in Caribbean island-hopping, there's no better way to get there in style than on board Queen Mary 2.

Theoretically, RMS Queen Mary 2 is a classless ship, but passengers are actually separated (like on all Cunard liners) as their onboard dining locations are according to their cabin's category/cruise fares paid. Despite these issues, traveling on QM2 still feels like a special experience, and there's a feeling of quiet excitement onboard. Dressing for dinner is taken seriously, and passengers enjoy the romance of walking the Promenade Deck, dancing in the Queens Room and experiencing the Planetarium. And the thrill of approaching the New York port (if you're on a Cunard Queen Mary 2 westbound crossing) becomes progressively more palpable the nearer you get to the U.S. Next to embark is a 7-night sailing onboard Queen Anne, a 3,000-passenger vessel that will officially enter service on May 3, 2024.
Queen Mary 2 Departure Ports
It's away from the hustle and bustle, a quiet and relaxing place for a cocktail and a read or chat. You get a great forward view over the bows, although blinds are drawn at dusk so the light does not interfere with the view from the bridge above. I would not buy a cheaper advance-purchase Advance fare because this commits you to a specific train and you are not in control of exactly when you arrive and disembark. Super Off-Peak, Off-Peak and Anytime fares can be bought on the day and used flexibly, so you can catch the next train. Alternatively, the cheapest option (just $4) is to take the frequent ferry from Brooklyn's Red Hook ferry terminal to Pier 11 on Wall Street at the southern end of Manhattan. Red Hook ferry quay is only 100m from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, and it'll take you to Manhattan in a matter of minutes, see It's aimed at locals, but taking a suitcase isn't usually a problem.

This is a ship where passengers appreciate formality; even informal nights require jackets and dresses. If dressing up isn't your thing, it's not the ship for you, unless you are OK being restricted to the buffet at night. On recent crossings, the ship under delivered in some areas, notably the (un)helpfulness of a couple of crew members and the quality of food in the ship's main dining room, Britannia Restaurant, where the majority of passengers eat. Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry.
Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 ship breaks moorings due to strong winds in Italy
On October 19, 2011, the vessel changed its registry (flag-state) from UK to Bermuda which allows cruise wedding ceremonies to be held on the ship. The word "Southampton" on the stern was replaced with "Hamilton". This was the first time in Cunard's history when its liner was registered not in the UK. Passengers staying in suites are offered new menus in refurbished settings by Princess Grill and Queens Grill restaurants. Britannia Restaurant, Golden Lion pub, and Veuve Clicquot Champagne Bar all boast refreshed menus.
The new specialty dinner is at a surcharge and opens for lunch and dinner only. The Verandah Grill has its own bar selling pre/post-meal drinks. The full itinerary visits 27 ports in 16 countries and 33 UNESCO Sites.
The facilities on Queen Mary 2 include fifteen bars and restaurants, a theatre, casino, ballroom and five swimming pools (four of the ship's five swimming pools are outdoors), together with the first planetarium at sea. With four elevators removed and 50 new cabins added during the 2016 refurbishment, Cunard QM2 -- as the ship is sometimes known -- could have become overcrowded around the other elevators, but this doesn't seem to be a problem. Our transatlantic crossing sailed at capacity, yet the ship felt as spacious as ever. Inaddition to the QM2, some regular freight ships carry alimited number of passengers, and there are occasionalcrossings by other cruise lines - UK agencies listing both freighter and cruise line voyages includethecruisepeople.wordpress.com.
Designed for the ultimate Transatlantic Crossing experience, the 2,600-guest Queen Mary 2 is the world's only true ocean liner, which will also take you to worldwide destinations in high-end splendor. Experience Cunard's legendary White Star Service™ from the moment you embark and marvel when you enter the Grand Lobby. You will know why discerning travelers return to Queen Mary 2 time and again.
